Amira Abase, 15, was just a young teenager enjoying life in Britain. Pictures have emerged of her laughing in the park, showing off vividly painted nails, posing with the athletics' squad in her East London school, where she was top of her science class. She was also active on Facebook frequently writing of activities she enjoyed and music she loved. No one could have guessed her actions that followed.Two weeks ago on February 17th, while her school was on half- term, Amira abruptly walked out of her family's home in black jeans and trainers, telling her father she was going for a wedding. He believed her. She had no luggage when she left the house.
Amira caught a bus to Gatwick Airport with two other girls, Kadiza Sultana, 16, Shamima Begum, 15, who were her fellow classmates and flew to Istanbul. CCTV footage shows the girls waiting in the snow upon arrival in Istabul, to board a bus that would take them to Syria where ISIS militants were waiting for them.
Amira was born in Ethiopia and moved with her family to England, Germany, and then back to Engalnd where she started school at Bethnal Green Academy. She was shining star in academics and athletics. While her friends were getting boyfriends, going clubbing, taking holidays together, she could not partake because of her religion. Some of her friends suspected she joined ISIS as form of excitement and rebellion. There signs that her views of politics and religion were gradually shifting but nobody expected anything so sudden and so shocking.
Amira and her friends are not the first western muslims to join ISIS, it has become frequent especially in the British Society, as police and intelligence work desperately to curb the numbers.
